Nick: There's always risk with term, but Marino's game is built on positioning and hockey IQ, not just speed. Those skills age well. And locking him up now gives the Mammoth certainty on the blue line for years.

Nick: I see two clear top pairs. Weegar with Marino gives you a shutdown pair that can also push the pace. And Sergachev with Simashev is a young, dynamic duo that could be special.

Nick: You've got Peeke, Schmidt, and Lamoureux battling for minutes. Lamoureux is the wild card — if he's ready, he could push for a spot. That's a good problem to have.

Nick: The Devils threw a $4.78 million offer sheet at Hayton, and the Mammoth matched it without hesitation. He's a key piece down the middle, and you don't let a player like that walk.
Vanessa: And now he's signed for one year at $4.775 million. So what's the plan with him?
Nick: He's a solid two-way center who can play in all situations. With Trocheck coming in, it gives the team incredible depth down the middle. Hayton might not be a top-line guy, but he's a perfect third-line center or a guy who can slide up when needed.
Vanessa: Speaking of Trocheck, let's get to our next segment. We've got questions about the new additions and the roster battles.

Nick: I think you've got to start with Cooley between Keller and Guenther — that's your top line. They were electric last year, and you don't break that up.
Vanessa: So where do Trocheck and Lee fit?
Nick: Trocheck is a perfect second-line center. He's a 200-foot player who can win faceoffs and contribute offensively. And Lee gives you a net-front presence on the power play. He's a natural fit on the second line with Schmaltz and maybe Crouse or another winger.
Vanessa: That's a deep forward group. What about the bottom six? Any battles there?
Nick: There's a logjam. You've got Hayton, McBain, Stenlund, and others fighting for ice time. And don't forget about younger guys like Daniil But and Joshua Roy who might push for a spot.
Vanessa: So who's on the outside looking in?
Nick: It's going to be tough for some veterans like Agozzino or McCartney to crack the lineup. But that's what training camp is for. Competition brings out the best.

Nick: I'd expect the first unit to be Keller, Guenther, and Lee up front, with Marino and Sergachev on the points. That gives you a right-handed shot from Marino and a left-handed shot from Sergachev.

Nick: Probably Trocheck, Schmaltz, and Cooley up front, with Weegar and maybe Hayton or Crouse. They can mix and match. But the key is Lee's net-front presence — that's something they were missing last year.

Nick: I'm taking Connor Bedard from the Blackhawks. No question. He's a generational talent who would immediately elevate the Mammoth's offense to another level.
Vanessa: That's a spicy take. But the Blackhawks are our season opener opponent. You sure you want to give them that bulletin board material?
Nick: They already know they've got Bedard. But on our team, we'd be unstoppable. Imagine Cooley, Trocheck, and Bedard down the middle. That's a nightmare for any opponent.
Vanessa: Alright, lightning round time. Quick takes, no hesitation. First up: who wins the backup goalie job?
Nick: I'm going with Jaxson Stauber. He's got the most NHL experience and has shown he can handle the load when needed.
Vanessa: Next: which rookie makes the biggest impact this year?
Nick: Dmitri Simashev. He's ready to take a big step and could be a top-four defenseman by season's end.
Vanessa: And finally, bold prediction: does the Mammoth win the Central Division?
Nick: They're fourth right now, but with these additions, they could push for the top. I'll say they finish second, just behind Colorado.
