Greg: Sarah raises a valid point. When you look at the stats, it wasn’t just bad luck. Manu Duah controlling 98 accurate passes means they dominated possession completely. We couldn’t disrupt their build-up play at all.
Laura: Right. And on the other side, Brayan Vera only managed one shot for Montreal. Efraín Morales had 28 accurate passes, which is decent, but when you don’t have width or penetration, those numbers don’t matter much.
Greg: Exactly. The defensive line was too high and too exposed. Without a compact mid-block, San Diego just played through us. Thomas Gillier only made two saves, which sounds low, but it’s because he rarely had to face a clear chance until the late stages.
Laura: So, @MontrealMatty asks the next question: 'Is this team going to implode again? We drew with LA Galaxy thanks to Daniel Ríos and Prince Owusu, then tied DC United where Tai Baribo scored for the fifth game in a row. Why the inconsistency?'
Greg: Inconsistency is the keyword here. Five wins and eleven draws tells me we can score, but we struggle to close out games. Against LA, we were happy with a draw against a 10-man Galaxy. Against DC, Sean Johnson had six saves. We’re giving up chances we shouldn’t.
Laura: It’s frustrating because we see flashes. Daniel Ríos finding the net against LA showed some real movement in the box. But then we go away and lose 5-0. It’s a discipline issue, Greg.
Greg: I agree. It’s about transitions. When we lose the ball, we aren’t pressing aggressively enough to win it back quickly. San Diego exploited that space repeatedly. Until we fix our shape in transition, we’ll keep getting punished by teams like Nashville and Miami who move the ball faster.

Laura: Okay, segment two. This is the one everyone wants to know about. 'The Beatline Team' writes in: 'We signed Alexis Sánchez as a Designated Player. Is he helping? Or is he just taking up space in the attack alongside Prince Owusu?'
Greg: This is the million-dollar question. We predicted earlier that Sánchez would outscore Prince Owusu for the rest of the season. That’s still on the table, but we haven’t seen the explosion yet.
Laura: Right. Remember, last episode we said we thought he’d be a major factor. But looking at the roster depth, it’s tough to see him clicking immediately. The midfield isn’t creating enough quality chances for a player of his caliber.
Greg: True. Alexis needs service. If Efraín Morales is only completing 28 passes in a game, where is the creative spark coming from? Sánchez is an ex-Arsenal and Manchester United star, but he’s playing behind players who are struggling to retain possession against top-tier presses.
Laura: So, is it a tactical fit issue or a talent issue? Because Tai Baribo has scored in five consecutive games for DC United. He’s finding the net. Why isn’t Sánchez doing the same?
Greg: It’s not a talent issue, Laura. It’s a system issue. Baribo has been playing in a system that suits his direct running. Sánchez is more of a link-up player. Until CF Montréal’s midfield provides better vertical passing, he’s isolated. We need to see more width to stretch the defense so he can operate in the half-spaces.
Laura: Interesting take. So, @BlueWhiteBelieve asks: 'Should we be worried about the playoff race? We’re 14th. Can we really climb out of this hole?'
Greg: Look, we revised our prediction last week. We said 14th might be the reality, down from 10th or 11th. With 11 draws, we’re getting points, but we’re losing the big ones. To make a push, we need to turn those draws into wins.
Laura: And stop losing to the top teams. You can’t beat Inter Miami 7-1 and expect to stay in the hunt. That’s a statement loss.
Greg: Exactly. The gap between us and the top teams like Nashville is huge. But we have home games left. If we can tighten up defensively, maybe we salvage something.
Laura: Let’s hope so. Because if we don’t, this season could slip away fast.
Laura: Alright, segment three. Fun time. Hypothetical question from 'The Tifo Fan': 'If you could swap one current midfielder for a free agent right now, who do you pick to help Alexis Sánchez?'
Greg: Ooh, tricky. I’d want someone who can break lines. Maybe a classic number 10 type who can play through the press. Someone like... well, let’s say a young playmaker who fits the budget. We need creativity.
Laura: I’d go for a defensive anchor. Someone to protect the back line so we don’t get hit on the counter like we did against San Diego. Less flash, more grit.
Greg: Fair point. Defense wins championships, even if it’s boring.
