Scott: It’s a tough spot, Natalie. The Guardians are sitting at seventy-three and seventy-two, second in the AL Central, but momentum is clearly with the Orioles right now. We’ve got to talk about who steps up on the mound tonight and whether the lineup can find any consistency after that wild Monday night.
Natalie: Welcome back to the Beatline Podcast Network, Cleveland fans! I’m Natalie, joined by Scott. Today we are breaking down Game Two of this series. Scott: He’s not listed as injured. He’s a starter. But remember, Foster Griffin and Parker Messick are also on the roster. If the manager wants to avoid the long ball again, he might go with a ground-ball guy. The Orioles love the fly ball; Coby Mayo did it twice last night.

Ryan Helsley and Felix Bautista are on the sixty-day IL, which is weird because those names don’t even fit the Guardians’ current active roster construction, but the data shows them as out. Colin Holderman is out fifteen days too. Shawn Armstrong is gone for the season.
Natalie: So who is left in the pen? We have Franco Aleman, Daniel Espino, Matt Festa, Hunter Gaddis, Tim Herrin, Erik Sabrowski, Cade Smith, and Craig Yoho. That’s a lot of arms, but none of them are closers yet. How do you manage that leverage situation?
Scott: You use everyone. You can’t save anyone. If you lose another game like last night, you burn through your best arms. Matt Festa and Hunter Gaddis have been solid in spot duty. The key is getting the starter to go five or six innings so you aren’t forced to use a reliever in the first inning.
Natalie: And if the starter goes only four innings, we’re in trouble. The Orioles will feast. Coby Mayo is coming off a big night. Steven Kwan and Petey Halpin need to make sure they don’t make easy outs. Plate discipline is everything here.

Natalie: Bold prediction time. I’m saying the Guardians steal this game. Maybe not by a lot, but they get a walk-off win. Who gets the hit? I’m going with Jose Ramirez. He’s too good to ignore in a high-leverage spot.
Scott: I’ll take Ramirez for the RBI, but I think it’s Brayan Rocchio who delivers the final blow. He’s due for a big hit after that homer night against Detroit. I predict a Guardians win, 5 to 4. They snap the skid and tie the series.
